An Autumnal day out in London

Brr. It's bloody cold here in London right now. Luckily, I relish autumnal weather because it gives me an excuse to wear layers and dress from head to toe in colours like mustard, burgundy and leaf green.

Every year at the beginning of Autumn, I make myself some little goals. I think it's a throwback to my school days, and the feeling of a fresh start happening in September. I don't think I'll ever shake that feeling of September being the start of something.

Since we're half way through Autumn now, instead of telling you my goals, I'll tell you what I've achieved. I'd like to know what you guys have achieved too. It could be anything, big or small. Let's celebrate success!

Things I have achieved so far this Autumn
- Got a permanent job in an online content team for a well known print publication.
- Went to the Holocaust exhibition at the Imperial War Museum with Dan and sparked some interesting conversations between him and his family about his ancestors.
- Dressed as an Axolotl Princess for Hallowe'en.
- Hosted two parties
- Did lots of housework
- Wore plenty of autumnal outfits
- Did a lot of writing.

I'm off to Budapest for a long weekend the day after tomorrow. I'm pretty excited! I've been before, but it was a school trip and I may not have been paying as much attention to my surroundings as I could have been...!
So guys, let me know what you've achieved this autumn, and we can all feel very congratulatory together. Or have a look at what I was up to last autumn!

Our Cute Cat, Hemingway!

Here is the much anticipated (I'm sure) post about the newest member of our family - our new kitten, Hemingway. Remember when we went to choose him? He has settled into his new home very quickly, and now essentially owns the place. Here are some pictures of the little sir.
I snapped this one on the way home from getting him, whilst we were still in the car. I haven't looked at this photo in a couple of weeks, and it's amazing how he has actually grown! We'll have to get a bigger carrying box if he grows any more!
Here I am with my absolute pride and joy! I never expected to fall in love with a cat to this extent, but I just want to look after him and look after him and look after him for ever! I have very rapidly become one of THOSE cat people, and I shall have to restrain myself from waxing too lyrical about the little ginger creature, lest I bore you to tears!
As an aside, this dress has a story behind it. Initially, I saw it in a picture someone posted on Tumblr, a million and one years ago, and fell immediately in love. Somehow, I found out it was from Topshop so I went straight to their website and found it. It was something like £95 pounds, which pretty much ruled it out for me. Then, in January I was wandering through Topshop on Oxford Street on my way home from work when I spotted it, peeking out of a pile of sale-clothing. Like a banshee, I leapt upon it, and held it up. It was a size too big, and had two enormous rips, one going from the neckline to the waistline at the back, and one going all the way around the armpit of the left arm. So, I bought it for £25 and took it home to fix it! I've never done such a big fixing job before and now when I wear the dress I can't put my arms in the air, but AT LEAST IT'S MINE!!!
Anyway, back to the cat:
Here he is all snuggled up in a blanket, looking like the most adorable little ball of kitten that ever there was! He sleeps in our bed with us at night, but in the day, he snuggles up in this blanket that I've had for a million years.
And to close, here is a picture of the little Hemity climbing up the curtains. He is so naughty, but he has lovely little markings on his neck, doesn't he?!

Next time, stand agape at my super on-trend galaxy/nebula skirt. I am too hip to live... clearly...

Work Wear

Ironically, the day I make a post about what I wear to work, I've been too ill to go in. I used the time at home quite well though, writing a job application, and completing some work for university. So here's an outfit I wore to work last week. I actually changed my tights when I got home, as I wouldn't wear white tights to work, but thought they would look pretty good with this outfit.
I work with teenagers, and when I wore this dress, I got my first ever compliment from a pupil in year ten. I never quite know how to handle compliments, especially from the students, so when this particular student remarked, "Miss, I like your dress you know!" I looked sheepish and went, "Thanks... I like it too...!" I should get a qualification in awkwardness!

This dress is just short enough that I should be aware of myself as I pick things up and lean over stuff, so I probably wouldn't wear it on a day when I had to work with the younger kids, who are much more hands-on! However, I am happy with it as a mostly work-appropriate outfit. It's hard to choose outfits to wear to work, when you are aware of how hypercritical the students can be. I went in without makeup last week, and my hair was a bit bedraggled from the rain, and was met with the delightful comment, "Miss, you look well rough. Are you okay?" which I am sure was meant with concern, but still!

Here are my work-appropriate shoes, complete with water-splatters.  I love them, and they go well with the white tights, but I am still getting used to wearing 'high heels' on a daily basis. They aren't high by fashion-blogger standards, but they are definitely high by mine!

Arty arty, I'm so arty. But here it is. As we were taking these photos in our tiny, overgrown garden, I noticed that some little white flowers had managed to grow. So what did I do, tyrannical beast that I am? I plucked them out of the ground for my photo opportunity. What a monster!

Kitten Joy!!!

This weekend has been a weekend of kittens, and kitten-related items. My friend Nicole has a million billion (ten) cats at the moment, because one of her 5 existing cats, has had kittens! Because ten cats is a lot of cats, her family is looking for homes for the kittens, and as we've been thinking of getting a cat for a very long time now, we thought that now was a good time to start our family!

Despite the country being declared 'Officially In Drought', it's been raining all week, and apparently it is going to rain next week too. The only positive thing about this torrential downpour is that I get to use my gorgeous umbrella. I call it my Brolly-wood, because the combination of vibrant turquoise, with the rich pink pom-pom edging gives it a very opulent Indian feeling to me, and I can't resist a good pun!

This outfit is quite similar to one I wore a little while back, but I do love those woolen shorts, and I think you'll be seeing a lot more of that tweed jacket this spring!

I don't look very excited in this photo, but inside I am bursting with the anticipation of kittens, and the joy at having hair that is exactly the right amount of curly! I wish my hair would be like this without me having to spend an hour curling it. The curls had pretty much fallen out by the time we got to Nicole's house!

At Nicole's we met the adorable kittens and their mummy, but eventually chose this beautiful ginger kitten! We will bring him home in a month, and I am so excited, as is the Dan. We have been discussing names, but haven't come up with anything that's stuck yet. I suppose we've still got a month, but I am so eager to give him a name! He's more adorable than anything, isn't he!? I can't wait to watch him grow up into a big cat and become a feature of our family!!

Rather Dapper.

Why hello there...

A couple of days ago, I put together an outfit entirely comprised of clothes that are at least four years old. Unfortunately, it was rather cold so I had to put on my jacket, but then that looks pretty old too, so I don't think the effect was ruined too much.

I've been really enjoying wearing clothes that I wouldn't be able to wear to work, during the school holidays. I don't really own many 'smart' work outfits, and being a mere trainee, I can't afford to buy beautiful new clothes at the moment, but I do try... Anyway, during the holidays, I relish wearing clothes that are work-inappropriate.
I wore this outfit to check out the new Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford and to purchase some bits and bobs we needed for out home (mundane stuff such as those clips to close food bags... oh my Rock 'n' Roll life...).

I am lucky that Dan will take pictures of me in our garden, and indeed that we have a garden in which we can take pictures! Our next weekend-project is to clear out the weeds and get rid of the broken garden furniture that came with the flat, so that we can spruce the garden up for summer. I would love to be able to eat dinner in the garden, and have people over for barbeques. It is time that I got out of my antisocial rut!
This was the view from our back door. I had to snap this one quickly, before we shut the door and came back inside. We live in a densely populated area and so the garden is kind of cosy, and those clouds just looked so incredibly fluffy!

I hope you are having a lovely spring, and enjoying your weekend!
