September's Greatest Hits

autumn is coming

September is over, Autumn has arrived, and as usual, big life events are coinciding with the changing or the seasons. Everything I own is currently in either a cardboard box or a black bin-bag right now, and I'm spending a lot more of my time on trains. In fact, I am actually drafting this post on a train RIGHT NOW. Woah...

September's memorable moment

oatcake mixology

Both of these things happened in the last week but they were sufficiently memorable that they have all but erased the rest of the month from my brain! Last week it was my husband Dan's 26th birthday, and we all went out for a lovely Chinese meal before seeing Ballyturk at the National Theatre. It was a very impressive play - the physical theatre was exhilarating and the dark sinister humour was beautifully timed. The day after Dan's birthday, we commenced the five-day-long process of moving alllll of our stuff to his parents' house, where we will be living for the next couple of months. We are both utterly exhausted!

This month, I ate some midnight popcorn (I am all about salty late-night snacks), enjoyed my lunch nestled in amongst a sea of sleeping pigeons, started commuting to work, and bought my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the year (remember, I'm from the UK. It's still a novelty here!!)

Songs on repeat in September
I played a gig at The Fiddler's elbow with my band the other day, and the band who were playing before us were this awesome three piece indie rock band called Cat Bear Tree. They manage to blend badass raucousness with perfect harmonies to make these effortlessly cool pieces of music. I really liked their song Spaces In Between. I've also been listening to C'est La Mort by The Civil Wars over and over again this month. It's such a lovely song, but... very sad.

Sorry this is such a tiny little post - negotiating the very small amount of internet at Dan's parents' house is proving to be a challenge. Not to worry though, posting will resume as normal once I've figured it all out! September has been utterly manic, but there's lots of good stuff up ahead, especially food-wise. Plenty of recipes are a'comin' this Autumn. So my question to you is, what is your favourite AUTUMNAL foodstuff? I'd love to know! I love reading all of your comments!

August's Greatest Hits!

August favourites UK

Welcome to my second 'favourites' style post. There's been a lot to love this August, and as usual, I don't really think I came up for air at all this month, I've been so busy! I've made some new friends, been to some parties, and worked really bloody hard! That said, I am fully aware that this September is going to be the busiest month yet... But that's another post for another day.

August's most memorable moment

Portobello Road fun

This month we took advantage of the bright and sunny weather to have quite a few little outings. I want to write all about my wonderful trip to Brighton last weekend, but that only just happened, so I feel like it would be cheating a bit! A couple of weeks ago we went to Portobello Road and braved the crowds to have a truly life-changing burger and chips. I blogged about it here, so check it out if you missed it!

August's Instagram moments

obligatory granola picture is this a lob

Despite all of the sunshine and lollipops of the first half of August, I've been much more interested in the cooler, more muted late-August vibe. I've eaten some sexy granola, changed my hairstyle for Autumn, and had lots of cosy cat cuddles as the rain beat against the window. I mean, let's face it, every month is going to involve cat cuddles, but I reckon you're all totally down for that, aren't you? Follow me on Instagram for more autumnal whimsy as the days grow shorter!

Songs on repeat in August (Click the links to listen!)

I've got a bit of an eclectic mix for you this August. My top pick for the month is a bit of a weird one, but I think it's spectacular. My stepdad has notoriously... interesting... tastes (think ten-hour-long documentaries about Belgian suspension bridges) but every now and then he recommends something to me that I end up absolutely loving.
This month, it is the song Get Amongst It by Fjokra. I can't put my finger on Fjokra's genre and I think that's why I love his music so much. Here's the "cooking video" version of Get Amongst It, cunningly titled Baguette Amongst It. Every single song by Fjokra is completely different and I find them all so compelling! Any band who makes a six foot long baguette whilst grooving out to their own music gets my vote. Still, I suspect this recommendation may be a bit of a "Marmite" one, so here's another of my favourite songs of the month: Houses by Great Northern. I found this band ages ago when searching for some Twin Peaks related stuff online, and I've been obsessed with this song ever since. It's such a great song with a really sweeping Autumnal mood to it. It's around this time of year that I start to get into 'heavier' music... I'm still a little goth at heart!

Blogs I've loved this month

I received three Liebster Award nominations this month, from three incredible bloggers: Jessica from Sweetness and Solitude, Arielle from A Simple Elegance, and George from Caramel Latte Kiss. They're all such lovely women and their blogs couldn't be more different. Arielle is, as her blog promises, SO elegant, Jessica is adorable and organized, and George is such a strong and individual person, and (fun fact!) we used to be pen pals! You should check out these blogs and let them know I told you to say hi! :)

What was your highlight, this August? And please recommend me your favourite song of the month!

July's Greatest Hits!

July was kind of an epic month both for me and for this here little blog. Lots happened and I stepped up my blogging game to actually document a fair bit of it. Welcome to a new Owl Girl segment, in which I have a mini freak-out about all the positive moments of the month. This one will be a short one since I left it so late!

July's memorable moment

Oslo opera joy

The moment from July that I will remember for a long time is the feeling of standing on top of the opera house in Oslo, as a storm closed in over the fjords! I blogged about it here!

July's Instagram moments

I got these incredible jellies (my first pair in approaching twenty years!!) from Sun Jellies and I am totally in love with them. I love gold and I love sparkles but I kind of want every other colour of jellies now. Stay tuned for an outfit post with these babies involved! Other Instagram highlights involve some gorgeous iced coffee at Tapped and Packed, an incongruous "gentlemen" sign, and a bit of blurry cat action. Follow me on Instagram for more happyfuntimes!

Songs on repeat in July

This July I have been obsessed with Calexico, particularly their cover of Alone Again Or by Love, although I have pretty much had their entire discography on repeat for weeks now! I've also listened to Be Okay by Oh Honey and Can't Pretend by Tom Odell more times than I can count this month. Be Okay is super happy and the Tom Odell song is very mournful, just so you're warned. Emotional whiplash is on its way. Click through to watch YouTube videos of each song!

Blogs I've loved this month

I couldn't write this post without a shout out to Mimmi from Muted Mornings. She runs this wonderful, whimsical blog with plenty of light and bright photographs of gorgeous food and landscapes. She's also a really kind person! Another special mention to Julie from Lines Her Eyes, who did a great post called 'Things that got me through July' recently. Both of these lovely ladies nominated me for a Liebster award and I'm so happy! Check out their blogs! My final blog recommendation for the month is my dear friend Zoe who runs a great blog called Floral Zoe. She's a megababe and you're going to LOVE her.

Sorry this is a tiny short post, but be prepared for these "favourites" posts to become a regular thing, and I'll be talking about favourite products, favourite songs and the most magical moments of each month!

Did anything lovely happen to you in July? Please tell me all about it!
