2013 is going to be my year.

goals for 2013

It's no secret that 2012 was a difficult year for me. I've struggled with my health; with a career path I didn't enjoy; and subsequently with unemployment. For this reason and many others, I am determined to make 2013 different. I'm going to share a few things I'm looking forward to this year, as well as some personal goals, because I'm more likely to accomplish them if everyone on the internet knows about them! (At least, that's the aim!) Don't worry though, I'll sprinkle this post heavily, with photos
of Hemingway playing in the snow.

What's coming up in 2013?

- More employment - I've got a temporary job until March, but I need to find something more!
- More MUSIC! There's going to be plenty of musical activity this year.
- I'm getting married in July!
- Then of course there's the honeymoon! I love to travel
- Hopefully, we'll be moving house! Another chance to nest!

My Goals for 2013

- Turn this blog project into something I'm really proud of.
- Do something creative every day.
- Do something for my fitness every day.
- Experiment with a new recipe every week.

Oh, and to finish, here's a picture of Hemingway being super excited about the snow... Perhaps TOO excited there, Hemity!
Thankyou for reading about my goals for 2013. What are you looking forward to this year?

Walking The Cat

Salut!
How are you liking the new blog design? It's still a work in progress, but I think it's going to be super pretty when it's done!
Today, Dan and I decided to kill two birds with one stone and take some photos for the blog whilst we were taking Hemingway for a walk in the garden. He's grown so much! Remember when we brought him home for the first time? I know, I am a crazy cat-lady!
The light outside had that perfect moody-but-gentle Autumnal quality. Yes, I know, it's pretty weird to walk your cat, but I've seen far weirder animals on leashes. (Ferret on a leash, goat on a leash, teacup pig on a leash, anyone?) We live in London, and after reading that the life expectancy of an outdoor cat in London is 2 years, we decided that taking the cat out on a harness was our best bet. At least for now.

Hemingway doesn't mind being on the leash at all. He doesn't exactly enjoy it when he is in the house, but once we're outside, he is too busy sniffing things and exploring to mind. This is our very overgrown garden!

Over the summer, we didn't use the garden as much as we anticipated, and when we looked out of the window one day, the whole patio had been overrun with ivy and creepers. The tiny little bush in the middle had turned into an enormous tree, and the garden was like a jungle. I'd love to sort the garden out so that next spring and summer we can have some little barbecues and parties. Maybe that should be our next project!
My hair is finally growing, and people have been noticing how long it is getting. I can put it in a bun now, for the first time since I was about 17, I think! Exciting stuff. It may sound mundane, but as someone who has had short hair for roughly five years, it's lovely to be able to swish my hair again! I'm sure that before long, I'll crave my neat little bob again. Such is life!
Owl Brooch Regarding accessories, I've hit a bit of a wall recently! I almost always wear a necklace, and it's usually a fairly dainty one. Much as I love my necklaces, I think it is time to branch out. Or to 'brooch out'. Ohoho. This little owl brooch is from Cath Kidston. I got it in a lovely set from one of my ex-colleagues, last Christmas. It came with a gnome and a toadstool. I'm sure they'll make an appearance at some point, if I keep trying out this whole brooch thing.

Hemingway saw a little insect that needed to be chased! He goes quite well with my green tights, doesn't he? Who needs accessories with a cat as majestic as this?
Have you ever seen someone walking a strange animal on a leash? Do you think I'm weird for walking my cat?

Our Cute Cat, Hemingway!

Here is the much anticipated (I'm sure) post about the newest member of our family - our new kitten, Hemingway. Remember when we went to choose him? He has settled into his new home very quickly, and now essentially owns the place. Here are some pictures of the little sir.
I snapped this one on the way home from getting him, whilst we were still in the car. I haven't looked at this photo in a couple of weeks, and it's amazing how he has actually grown! We'll have to get a bigger carrying box if he grows any more!
Here I am with my absolute pride and joy! I never expected to fall in love with a cat to this extent, but I just want to look after him and look after him and look after him for ever! I have very rapidly become one of THOSE cat people, and I shall have to restrain myself from waxing too lyrical about the little ginger creature, lest I bore you to tears!
As an aside, this dress has a story behind it. Initially, I saw it in a picture someone posted on Tumblr, a million and one years ago, and fell immediately in love. Somehow, I found out it was from Topshop so I went straight to their website and found it. It was something like £95 pounds, which pretty much ruled it out for me. Then, in January I was wandering through Topshop on Oxford Street on my way home from work when I spotted it, peeking out of a pile of sale-clothing. Like a banshee, I leapt upon it, and held it up. It was a size too big, and had two enormous rips, one going from the neckline to the waistline at the back, and one going all the way around the armpit of the left arm. So, I bought it for £25 and took it home to fix it! I've never done such a big fixing job before and now when I wear the dress I can't put my arms in the air, but AT LEAST IT'S MINE!!!
Anyway, back to the cat:
Here he is all snuggled up in a blanket, looking like the most adorable little ball of kitten that ever there was! He sleeps in our bed with us at night, but in the day, he snuggles up in this blanket that I've had for a million years.
And to close, here is a picture of the little Hemity climbing up the curtains. He is so naughty, but he has lovely little markings on his neck, doesn't he?!

Next time, stand agape at my super on-trend galaxy/nebula skirt. I am too hip to live... clearly...
