A walk in the countryside

Autumn country walk

I could get used to this country lifestyle. No amount of mooching about in Hyde Park, or frolicking in the greener parts of South London can really replace the fresh air and sense of infinite freedom I get from donning my biggest, clumpiest Dr Marten boots and trudging through some mud, taking in huge lungfuls of cool, clean air. Hampstead Heath comes close, but even that doesn't quite hit the spot.

Late Autumn is my absolute favourite time for country walks, because there's nothing in the fields that would give me hay-fever, and it is the perfect temperature outside to bundle up in lots of knitted layers to keep warm before coming home rosy-cheeked and windswept to a toasty house and something hearty to eat.

And that's exactly what Dan and I did last weekend. We set off through the churchyard, and up the lane past the local farm equipment, before winding our way through some woods and along a little stream. We stopped by the side of the stream to sit with a flask of tea, watching the crows peck around the fields. And do you know what? I think we might go for another walk this weekend!

Cosy is what we aim for...

Living in London, I often crave the countryside. I miss being able to see a horizon, and I miss being able to breathe deeply without inhaling some pungent exhaust fume aroma, or an eau de ACTUAL TOILET, which seems to be so frequent in the city. So the fact that it's taken me more than two years to get around to visiting Hampstead Heath may come as a surprise. It's definitely worth the bus fare, guys, even if only to see some beautiful rich-people houses!

As you can see, I didn't just go for the mansions. I was most definitely in it for the trees. If you're into trees, Hampstead Heath has 'em. I've always associated the Heath with fields and picnicking families (and on that front I was not disappointed!) but there are also some beautiful wooded areas, and some gorgeous scenic views. I was also particularly excited that I could see so many aeroplanes flying overhead, although I appreciate that aeroplane noise might well irritate some people.

I made sure to wrap up super warm (and also wear a mini skirt, because I live on the gosh-darned edge, motherfluffers) for our little pseudo-country walk. I was also wearing a duffel coat, but I took it off so as to suffer for my art, and also because I knew that there would be too much out-fit repetition if I wore it twice. Trade secrets, guys.

An Autumnal day out in London

Brr. It's bloody cold here in London right now. Luckily, I relish autumnal weather because it gives me an excuse to wear layers and dress from head to toe in colours like mustard, burgundy and leaf green.

Every year at the beginning of Autumn, I make myself some little goals. I think it's a throwback to my school days, and the feeling of a fresh start happening in September. I don't think I'll ever shake that feeling of September being the start of something.

Since we're half way through Autumn now, instead of telling you my goals, I'll tell you what I've achieved. I'd like to know what you guys have achieved too. It could be anything, big or small. Let's celebrate success!

Things I have achieved so far this Autumn
- Got a permanent job in an online content team for a well known print publication.
- Went to the Holocaust exhibition at the Imperial War Museum with Dan and sparked some interesting conversations between him and his family about his ancestors.
- Dressed as an Axolotl Princess for Hallowe'en.
- Hosted two parties
- Did lots of housework
- Wore plenty of autumnal outfits
- Did a lot of writing.

I'm off to Budapest for a long weekend the day after tomorrow. I'm pretty excited! I've been before, but it was a school trip and I may not have been paying as much attention to my surroundings as I could have been...!
So guys, let me know what you've achieved this autumn, and we can all feel very congratulatory together. Or have a look at what I was up to last autumn!

Summer to Autumn: What I Wore...

So it's finally autumn... the season craved by internet-dwellers everywhere, who whimsically imagine themselves frolicking in piles of crisp russet leaves, or snuggled up by a fire with their mittened hands curled around a mug of something hearty and satisfying... Unfortunately, Autumn in London isn't that haven of crispy orange joy we've been drip-fed by American TV shows - It's much greyer, wetter and grumpier!
Perhaps this is why I went for a super colourful outfit the other day?! Don't get me wrong, I LURVE earth tones and muted autumnal palettes, but sometimes I just have to deck myself out in all the colours, you know?

Oh, and this is the perfect time to introduce you to my new shoes! Shoes, this is the internet. Internet, these are my shoes. I spent a long time looking for the perfect pair of shoes for autumn, and I think I came pretty close with these. They're not great in puddles, and they do make my second from last toe pop out of joint every now and then, but apart from that, they are excellent. Lots of ankle support, nice laces, and they look good with pretty much every outfit. I bloody love 'em.

Stay tuned to see what other outfits I wear them with! Spoiler alert: It'll be most outfits. See how my fashion choices become more and more dominated by scarves and knitted berets... Marvel at the majesty of my shiny cold nose. Autumn is well and truly on the way! Oh, and look; there ARE some crispy leaves in that picture! Plus, I did a LOT of baking today, and that's totes Autumn.

Autumn Resurrection.

Salut encore mes amis!

August and September flew by in a flurry of trying-to-be-employed-but-not-succeeding-to-be-employed, and here we are already, in October. I have a couple of lovely posts lined up for you, including a Rainbow Cake Tutorial, so stay tuned for that!

Me and Daddy Dearest

Here's a picture of my father and I (taken by my dear friend David Elbaz of GamraProductions) at Letchworth Station after a day of recording for my Dad's latest musical project. This is going to be a post in which I update you on the various musical endeavours with which I've been involved in the recent months. My Dad's old band, The Perfect Disaster (facebook and wikipedia) have somewhat reformed in order to record some new music. It's all on the horizon as we've been busy mixing and recording and doing technological magic on it, but if you can't wait here's a sneak peak of some of the new material.

So there's that. In addition to collaborating with mon père, I sing backing vocals for Robin Grey, a wonderful man who writes beautiful nu-folk tunes. I am very lucky to get to sing with him and other incredible musicians such as Basia Bartz and Caitlin Roberts who also play in Robin's band. I am aware that I am using many superlatives, and may be approaching 'gushiness' (a word I may have just invented...) Nevertheless, if you want to know what we sound like when we play together, watch this video:

Or listen to this:

Well, that's what I've been up to. I'll be posting some outfits soon, but until then, forgive me for plugging music I've been involved with! I am very excited about these projects and I want you guys to be excited too! (That's an order!) Until next time, here's a "cheeky" shot of Robin in the Abbot Street Studio recording some vocals for the new album. You should like us on facebook to see when we're playing shows, although I'll undoubtedly remind you!

Adios! Stay tuned like I said, for the RAINBOW CAKE TUTORIAL, and to find out my AUTUMN GOALS FOR 2012!
